« Style, Art, Life » is the second mandarin art book collection, by Nancy Zhang – chinese artist now living in Berlin – yet a review and sentiment of her art style and personal aesthetics in the past 6 years.

The artbook, launched first in Milan and then last October at 10 Corso Como Shanghai with a special exhibition, combines western and oriental style with Zhang’s personal aesthetics.

ARRIVO, designed by Stefano Ughetti and Matteo Gioli of Camo and Super Duper Hats respectively, is among the names listed for the 87th edition of Pitti Uomo in the Pitti Italics section; a program showcasing the coolest upcoming Made in Italy fashion designers who’ve got an international slant.

Embracing this creative collaboration to give Italian fashion and its history a new perspective, the two designers set out to fully express a value they both have in common: the knowledge and the passion for craftsmanship that speaks a contemporary language.

When working on his brand, Camo, Ughetti creates vintage pieces with a modern-meets-traditional taste, while Gioli’s original take on headgear with Super Duper hats – born together with Ilaria e Veronica Cornacchini – looks to high quality raw material to construct authentic handcrafted products. As a duo blending personal creative experience and proud inspiration sought from two grandfathers who were both cyclists, the project ARRIVO shakes up a fresh, new vision of classic menswear.

The name of the brand, meaning ‘finish line’ in Italian, is also a milestone conceived to represent a starting point from which to interpret menswear in a whole new way. The key concepts behind the designs are the will power and the determination that pushed true sportsmen to keep going no matter what, if not only to redeem themselves to hope for a new beginning post-war.

The Collection

A fresh touch frames the ARRIVO collection composed of three separate pieces that combine to make 27 different outfits. Featuring an updated idea of cycling attire, a basic palette of black and white translates right from the 1940s and 1950s photographs of cycling’s greatest professionals. Neatly packaging an up-to-date identity, every piece contributes to expressing the brand’s balanced mix of traditional-innovative style insights.

The first posts on Fashtags introduced MSGM, Fausto Puglisi and Paula Cademartori who all went on to become bright fashion stars. But who are we buzzing about today? The following selection of designers hails right from the latest runways.

The Haitian-Italian newborn talent, Stella Jean, mixes the joy of her homeland with details typical of Made in Italy fashion and adds a super cool touch to colors, patterns and animal prints. A trademark total look she created and which is a very popular style among fashion editors these days, includes a maxi skirt and a stripped shirt accessorized with a statement necklace.

In January, Stella presented her second male collection at Pitti Immagine Uomo in Florence: its theme evocated London’s clubs during the Victorian period and was contaminated with her signature African prints. The designer then made a successful debut at the Teatro Armani during Milan Fashion Week, with a FW14/15 woman collection rich in colors, prints and motifs inspired by African culture.

The recent generation of Italian designers, also sees the name of Andrea Pompilio, who after having worked for the likes of Alessandro Dell’Acqua, Prada, Calvin Klein and YSL, started his homonymous fashion brand in 2010. His style reinterprets classics giving them a modern twist with sporty yet very individual references, and just like Stella Jean, his collections were presented at Pitti Immagine Uomo and at the Teatro Armani.

The brand Au Jour Le Jour is the perfect example of how powerful today’s social media can be. Through a funny and smart communication, the designers Mirko Fontana and Diego Marquez were able to get their ironic prints noticed by the big names in Milanese fashion, one of which, was Giorgio Armani. In the same way as the previously mentioned designers, the duo of Au Jour Le Jour was offered the chance to debut in the popular and new talent-oriented theatre bearing the surname of the Italian fashion king, the Teatro Armani.

The latest collection of Au Jour Le Jour brings lips, pandas and bears into style, and is inspired by a 1970s silhouette and color palette. Even the “Euro Girls” come into it, as muses and citizens of the world out to discover new cities by day, and grand party animals by night.

In 2013, the Patagonian phenomenon and multi-talented Marcelo Burlon – PR, stylist, creative director, dj and fashion editor – went as big as ever when he literally blew the fashion panorama away with a collection of t-shirts that is currently taking over the entire world. The pieces of County of Milan, express multicultural references in the form of bird feathers and esoteric symbols, and embrace rave and club culture too

Both Au Jour Le Jour and Marcelo Burlon will be at Pitti Italics, a hallmark representing the new generations of Italian fashion designers who, according to Pitti, possess an international appeal.

Who will be the next talent to grace the stage at King Giorgio’s Theatre and ride the runways all over the world?

Men’s Fashion Week in Milan was catwalk shows as always but also FW 14/15 collections at trade fairs and other events. The White Trade Show in collaboration with the project A.I. Artisanal Intelligence, showcased a bunch of emerging designers whose work mixes innovative and contemporary design with typical Made in Italy craftsmanship. Four stories of contemporary creativity set out to keep up tradition. None of the brands though, feared stepping into the territory of the unpredictable, and went on to investigate the fields of modern, original and even vintage precepts.

The cork bags of Silvia Massacesi received special treatment to be water resistant yet super light and flexible. One of the peaks of the collection was the inlay work shaping the silhouettes of owls and wings of dragonflies. A “well-educated” brand that shows the influence of William Morris – the English textile designer famous for making prints in woven textiles – and of the Wiener Werkstätte, the Austrian production community of visual artists that became famous in the early twenties for reflecting the taste of Viennese high society.

Winner of the Vogue Eco Talent Award 2013, in this eco-chic handbag collection Silvia Massacesi combines advanced technology and romanticism using only natural or recycled materials.

Jenì on the other hand, mixes metal, leather and animal prints to amplify the impact of the designs and the power of materials. Looking to the strength and beauty of the female warriors of our times, the combination of strong lines, clean shapes and sophisticated handcrafting techniques result in timeless items. A fitting look for those who appreciate a luxurious way of life without having to give up comfort.

For Miss Gummo, manual expertise is a family tradition as is the ability to turn something simple into a contemporary work of art. Examples of this are the brand’s felt hats and the precious headbands. Playing with outrageous shapes and colors, Miss Gummo reinvents classics and steers away from clichés, drawing inspiration from past Hollywood glamour but throwing in a bit of fun and drama.

The social project “Fumne”, is a homage to dynamic women. The pieces talk about art through the work of a group of incarcerated women in Turin. Every handbag, clutch, shoulder bag and backpack is produced in different materials, embellished using handmade embroidery and tells a story that weaves emotions, sensitivity and determination.

During the leading fashion trade fair, Pitti Immagine Uomo, last January, L’Uomo Vogue and GQ Italia launched “The Latest Fashion Buzz“ . The aim of the project was to give support and visibility to a selection of new talents in male fashion dividing them in two categories: formal and informal.

For the event, 10 brands from different countries were chosen ranging from accessories to ready to wear. Among them, the Italian ones were: Andrea Cammarosano, CB Made in Italy and WD-Man.

Seeking inspiration from the themes of travel and “citizens of the world”, Andrea Cammarosano weaved his collection into the realms of dream and reality in a fashionista version of Stravinsky’s Firebird. In the original plot, all men who enter The Garden of Kashei are turned into stone warriors by a terrible guardian. The entrance of the Firebird gives way to a dance that puts to sleep all the men granting them their freedom back upon their awakening. The collection translates the fluidity of the dancers and the hardness of warriors into dark colors juxtaposed by whites and transparencies, and by alternating more or less rigid materials.

CB Made in Italy by designer Cecilia Bringheli, presented the handmade shoes she produces for men and women in a small factory in Northern Italy. The brand’s birth is related to the designer’s personal desire to find shoes that were simple but chic at the same time. The first pieces that were ever made were loafers. Today’s collections are divided into timeless creations that make use of more classical materials and seasonal products more prone to the introduction of new materials and trends.

To transpose the concept of luxury to contemporary times ensuring supreme quality and comfort, every step of the process from cutting the leather to assembling all parts of the shoe is meticulously reviewed. The combination of traditional Italian craftsmanship – each pair takes at least three hours to make – and modern technologies results in slippers, moccasins, ankle boots and boots made of leather and suede fit for any occasion.

CB Made in Italy also partnered with Missoni and the online shop Muzungu Sisters that promotes handmade craftsmanship in fashion from different countries. The limited edition capsule collection includes three loafers made from fabrics contributed by Missoni, and can be shopped here. Ten percent of profits will be donated to children in need from the non-profit, Small Steps Project.

WD-Man is a project by Salvatore Battello: a capsule collection of jackets inspired by British sartorial tradition. The techniques and principles used to conceive it though, were strictly Made in Italy. Developed in six different styles to present an array adequate for outdoor and indoor occasions, the chosen fabrics were exclusive English wools and tweeds.

Most shapes, reminiscent of typical military uniforms, gave each piece a sense of a distinguished and manly nobility. The touch of Innovation came from the act of deconstructing the original versions to recreate modern wearable pieces for today’s men.

Like many other existing projects pushed during fashion week, The Latest Fashion Buzz wants to promote and give international value to young designers by making use of one of the most important fashion fairs of the world. Thanks to L’Uomo Vogue, GQ Italia and Pitti Immagine Uomo for buzzing fashion’s doorbell with a handful of hot new talents. #Fashtags is proud to keep fashion buzzing about it too.

Fashtags is not just a fashion designer hunting hub; it’s also a melting pot of talents and icons. One of the most talked about Italian style girls as of late is Eleonora Carisi; owner of the innovative concept store You You in Turin that sells creations of emerging designers as well as her own personal brand What’s Inside You.

Fashion blogger risen to fame thanks to her own blog and popular muse for a variety of fashion campaigns such as the Yamamay video she stars in directed by Senio Zapruder, Eleonora also contributes as an It Girl and trendsetter for Grazia.it. Her skills though, don’t end here: street style fashion photographer, Eleonora is also known for being called to develop cool unconventional marketing strategies in the fashion panorama.

THREE QUESTIONS FOR ELEONORA
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

#F: What do you think are the distinguishing elements of Made in Italy?
EC: The quality and the selection of materials to create garments that become one with whoever wears them; just like a second skin

#F: Which concept or mood best represents your style?
EC: My icons are Rita Hayworth, Audrey Hepburn and most divas of that era. I’m inspired by the 1950s, blues music, femininity and self-confidence, the image of a cigarette in one’s mouth, sexy women and soft hair waves.

#F: What do you think of the designers we’ve selected on Fashtags so far? What are your preferences?
EC: I appreciated Vivetta; the pastel colors and unexpected details like the huge bows and the neoprene daisies on the oversize coats. The limited edition collection of An Italian Theory’s Alessandro Enriquez with Azzurra Gronchi very much represents my Sicilian roots; the colored fabrics are so summery and they remind of the typical folklore of Southern Italy.

His style is edgy, cool and original. He is the master of punk crafting. Giancarlo Grossi aka Gienchi, started out in his apartment in Milan, inspired by London’s 1980s punk scene. With his friends sending him home their Converse All Stars, his handcrafting skills and “rough and tough” treatments began receiving unparalleled recognition in no time at all. His trademark All Stars covered in studs, eyelets, rivets and sequins, exploded into an unstoppable fashion trend and iconic must-have both in town and overseas.

In 2010 Gienchi breaks into the fashion system with his own Converse-inspired sneaker collection, rigorously Made in Italy and with a chunkier look. Only apparently extreme, Gienchi shoes tap into the secret desire of those who want to wear a brave fashion statement and feel unique.

The maniacal attention put into the choice of materials and the minute details of each and every pair, have the power to shock in the same way as do special effects. Now also available in eye-catching colors and without metal inserts & co., Gienchi sneakers are simply daring pieces of foot art.

Brazilian-born with Italian roots, the handbag designer Paula Cademartori, is guided by an immense devotion for fashion and the strong belief that the craftsmanship and fine quality of Made in Italy products have no rivals.

The sophisticated luxury that she proposes, expresses these standards of exclusivity and glamour through functional designs and a timeless allure. The result is a collection of contemporary classics with a vintage taste and a bold personality.

Starting out at Orciani – an Italian brand that represents excellence in the leather goods industry – Paula moves on to designing handbags for Versace presenting the first collection in 2012 at the Parisian trade show Premiere Classe.
In 2011 she goes on to being selected among the 10 finalists of Who Is On Next?; a contest and scouting project organized by AltaRoma in collaboration with Vogue Italia to seek out young creative talents.

Paula’s opposition to today’s commercial world of fast fashion, brings her to strictly follow the craft diktats of Made in Italy in the production of her collections; from the process of leather tanning to the assembly of her trademark satin-finished palladium buckles.

Paula Cademartori handbags basically are an Italian quality statement destined to “a sophisticaed woman who appreciates the quality of the product in itself, not to someone who buys the name of a brand.”

Paula Cademartori literally conquered the accessory fashion world in no time, and is among the most stylish and prestigious brand of handbags you will find on the market. So let yourself be surprised…and surprising!

A party attitude for contemporary princesses and rockstars, and a world of geometries for strong glamorous girls.

Fausto Puglisi dreams to possess an atelier but has an industrial vision of it: lots of Italian labs creating state-of-the-art garments to be delivered to his clients in elegant hat boxes bearing their names.

The Sicilian-born designer who went to America aged 18, gets discovered by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana with their “Young Designers” project. Personally chosen to be showcased in their exclusive multi-brand store Spiga 2 in Milan, Puglisi is exhibited alongside the newest names in fashion in an atmoshphere of shared culture and innovative aesthetic ideas.

With his profile on the rise also thanks to personalities such as pop star Madonna and Vogue Japan’s editor-in-chief Anna Dello Russo, Puglisi chooses Amber Le Bon – the daughter of lead singer from the 80s cult band Duran Duran, Simon Le Bon – as his muse for the F/W 2012 campaign, and presents his first S/S 2013 collection in the hall of the prestigious historic Palazzo Serbelloni situated in the heart of Milan.

Entirely produced in Italy by specialized artisans, his creations are born to exceed absolute luxury. They are made for women with a party attitude who represent strength and glamour today; contemporary princesses and rockstars who also seek casual but well-constructed business attire.

Puglisi loves visual culture and mixes both high and popular culture, turning his brand into a world of inspirations: Sicily, Italian neorealist films, the American star system, Roman gladiators, modern architecture and the Mediterranean Baroque. As of 2012, Puglisi has also been nominated creative director at the famous Italian fashion brand Emanuel Ungaro. Fausto Puglisi can be summarized as: the one who will no longer show 2D items of clothing like everyone else, but who will homage fashion with a new 3D perspective.

"A modern girl getting dressed on a Saturday night to go out with her girlfriends, a woman getting ready to go out with her partner." Girlfriends, colleagues, and the everyday explosive girls of MSGM.

Created by Massimo Giorgetti in 2008, MSGM is the colorful outburst that was born during the darkest hours of fashion’s economic crisis; the one that was pushing fashion’s face right into the ground.

With a piercing color palette full of imagination, a rich and persuasive energy, an infinity of crisp prints and wild patterns, the classic but frivolous shapes and volumes, and heaps of never-ending inspiration, MSGM literally blew everyone away including the international press and worldwide buyers.

In 2010, Vogue Talents defines the brand as one of the best emerging collections and Massimo Giorgetti as being a true revelation among fashion designers. Requests to sell MSGM begin to shower all over starting from London based Matches and Browns to Lane Crawford in Asia, from Joyce in Hong Kong to Harvey Nichols in Istanbul and in Dubai. MSGM is so successful it ends its fall-winter sales campaign in 2011 with an increase of 200% and with its presence in 280 boutiques around the world.

MSGM is as unpredictable and as surprising as the man who designs it. Massimo describes fashion as “Amazing!” and himself as a courageous and persevering soul; an enthusiast and a stubborn match.

The mix of cinema, art and music that Massimo puts into his creations, his knowledge of the history of fashion united with the essence of the everyday and his overall vision, give way to pure freedom of expression and produce an explosive visual mix of creativity.
