By looking at the classical dimensions of Romanian-born sculptor Brâncuși’s “Egg” piece, Vanotti’s SS14 results as a breezy and rather intimate operation. A muted color palette of whites, hued reds, indigo blues and notes of deep black accompanies the understated egg shell prints providing a graphic quality to the overall downplayed feel of the collection. Surfaces are slightly grainy to resemble a metaphorical second skin.

Lucio Vanotti merges classic fabrics in an innovative composed manner. A selection of alcantara, smooth silky cotton, crispy silks, mako jersey, white pleated cotton and lightweight knits, vehicles a translucent touch with fluid feminine shapes. In his past f/w 13-14 collection “Concrete”, Lucio Vanotti expressed his rational creative touch by fusing beauty with utility in a set of interchangeable pieces inspired by concrete pillars and an angry sea. This time, the concept behind his S/S 2014 collection lies in the anatomy of squared surfaces, rectangles and boxes. Mathematical equations dictate the structure of perpendicular shapes, translating into a dimensional game of interactive and contrasting silhouettes that never neglect the bond between surfaces and textures.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION 

In one part of the collection, understated items flow through an essential palette of black, white, grey and blue, alongside conflicting striped fabrics, minimal squares and small hole details. The classical jacket goes armless and brings forth the deconstructed, boxy attitude of squared essence found also in pants, shirts and shorts.

In total contrast to this rigid feel, comes the lightness of the other part of the collection. Injected by a dose of ideas derived from sculptor Brancusi’s sinuous sculptures, Carl Andre’s geometric minimalism and artist David Hockney’s pool series, garments breathe intimacy. Creams, hued pinks and pinches of rust, accompany the pool water and egg/sky prints adding a graphic edge to the simplicity of all the collection.

Surfaces are grainy similarly to a metaphorical second skin, while textures and classic fabrics merge in a unique answer to innovation. Selections of alcantara, smooth silky cotton stretch, crisp seersucker, mako jersey, white plissé cotton and lightweight knits, give a translucent finish.

Lucio Vanotti is the emblem of stylistic purity. The character of his collections is fast, efficient, anti-romantic. Intended to be used as a daily object, his items of clothing are reduced to their basic essence; an extreme abstraction that is easy to use.

Seasons are not important but personal touches are, and the rational and often interchangeable pieces that Vanotti makes for both men and women, fuse beauty with utility and avoid ornamentation. Exactly like his S/S 2013 collection entitled “Sleepwalkers”. Inspiring a sense of suspension, the collection’s mood told a story of was also fully expressed in the fashion film directed by Leone Balduzzi, and was based on individuals in a psychiatric hospital who suffer from Misocromia; a greek word to describe the hatred of colors.

The Lucio Vanotti A/W 2013-14 collection “Concrete”, is a style session where time is suspended and where rigid and flat concrete pillars stand in contrast with the wild raging sea. Each and every item of clothing embodies a sartorial mind and the ideal of an authentic vision of tomorrow’s fashion. Lucio Vanotti describes his own collection as: practical, basic and composed.

• PRODUCT DESCRIPTION A/W 2013-14 •

“Concrete”, is a silent orchestra played by texture, structures and shapes. A portfolio of cement-looking thick materials oppose, meet, and love flowing fabrics: rubbers, rich leathers, sleek wools and sheer cotton stretch. Structured craftsmanship is noted in shirts, t-shirts, and jackets, and is expressed through the use of a cold colors such as dark blue, black, sky blue, white and multiple tones of grey. The prints mimic surfaces of concrete, human eyes and the sea.

“Concrete” also sees Peter Non’s collaboration for a dress shoe, and presents a new and unconventional interpretation of the iconic rucksack now crafted in a quilted leather version and a waxed rubber one.

Lucio Vanotti offers a different vision of daily life with details that take its wearer to inhabit a place where time is suspended.
