Forging metal to turn his sculptures into material and architectural bags, Alessandro Di Cola – who is more than just a designer and who may be defined as a maker¹ – produces outright wearable artworks. Chiseled volumes in light aluminum are combined with organic and warm materials, making for unique handmade creations that bring together multiple historic and stylish references.

The creativity of the designer was enhanced by his energetic passion for horses. It is among those sensory memories that he sought out materials such as horsehair or fur, uniting them to the aluminum structures of the “bags-to-be”. Ultimately, the concept behind Shooting Bag 1981, finds its roots in the Fox Hunting² tradition carried out by the British in the 19th Century. Looking to a contemporary idea of luxury, the handbags communicate the ambience of that époque through silver inserts reminiscent of hunting trophies and typical silverware of the time.

The 8 different models of the collection all come in light aluminum, are hand sewn using riveting techniques, lined with tartan fabric and bear handles in polished wood or stamped silver. Every purse has a lateral personalized stamp with its weight, and identification of the material and composition of it: Al (aluminum), atomic number (13) and oxidation state (+3).

According to the designer, the use of aluminum enables several kinds of experimentations with materials such as wood, leather, horsehair and Mongolian fur, thus resulting in the creation of futuristic objects of desire. The models not only bare hunting-inspired names but physically resemble objects hailing from that world: “Hunter” recalls the stock of a shotgun, “Cuff” is inspired by the sleeve cuff of a British hunting uniform, “Cartridge” was born from the idea of a cartridge belt while “Beagle” is based on the homonymous hound dog breed.

Shooting Bag 1981 is a brand that speaks the style of those contemporary women on the lookout for special and innovative luxury trends that set them apart from the mass.

¹ Maker: the maker culture is a contemporary culture or subculture representing a technology-based extension of the DIY (do it yourself) culture. Typical interests of the maker culture include engineering-oriented pursuits such as electronics, robotics, 3D printing, as well as more traditional activities such as metalworking, woodworking, and traditional arts and crafts.

² Fox Hunting: originated in the 16th century in the form which was practised until 2005 in Great Britain – is an activity involving the tracking, chase, and sometimes killing of a fox, traditionally a red fox, by trained foxhounds or other scent hounds, and a group of unarmed followers led by a master of foxhounds, who follow the hounds on foot or on horseback.

Once again Simone Rainer applies “the golden ratio rule”, the principle of perfection represented by the constant Φ phi (= 1,618), on the concept of his iconic bag. Femininity supports Rainer’s trademark mathematical influences.
An A-list woman, a shape that seductively breaks up a black background. A crystal clear and precious triangle immersed in a sea of reflections, awakens the senses.

A surface yearning to be explored, creased by an impetous cascade of varnish, seemingly and effortlessly lacquering everything like nail polish, like lipstick. The powerful essence of fuchsia fills one’s eyes. The paths engraved by rigorous folds, stimulate the touch. Geometry and divine proportions, inspire a scent of sugar.

The new An Italian Theory collection designed by Alessandro Enriquez, is made up of unisex garments with the exception of a few female pieces. Different weights and yarns such as mohair, cashmere and lambswool speak up; fine gauges for the lightweight jacquard pattern where the “GOOD LUCK” theme combines with the geometric graphics of a bright palette of navy blue, red, pink, yellow, black and algae-green; heavier weights for the knitted jumpers handmade-style where the “heart” and the “horse shoe” create tone-on-tone textures. Boy pants, oversize sweaters, maxi skirts, with “cellophane” intarsia, the latest generation transparent yarn alternate with the “Milano” stitch conferring fabrics a silky touch.

The collaboration of the creative duo, An Italian Theory + Azzurra Gronchi started back in April 2013 and has developed into a new accessories collection for this FW14-15 season. Accessories showing unusual shapes, clearly inspired by the geometrical figures of triangles, squares, rectangles and semicircles also make their way into the knitwear collection.

The An Italian Theory original pattern presents new elements and features prints of “gesticulating hands” in the form of “ok”, “hearts” and “fists”. An additional “animal-patchwork” puzzle showcases pieces of different animals and naturally goes on to assemble unexpectedly bizarre ones.

The use of recycled materials is new in the An Italian Theory accessories collection. Parts of unisex backpacks and female clutches show recycled metal plates of various shapes and sizes taken from old metal shutters discovered at Nicola Corsaro’s warehouse – a vintage repository in Bari – and are re-colored to combine with the FW14-15 color palette. An Italian Theory brings back forgotten materials and objects to a new and glamorous life.

The personality of the designer and the inspirations used to create the handbags in every season, touch on many points. Born and raised in a small town in central Italy, Benedetta Bruzziches finds pleasure in the small things in life. Energy, smells and colors capture her attention everywhere she goes. Open-minded and full of stories to tell, she wants to reach out to the world through her handbags. As she says “What are bags for if not to contain stories?”.

Known for her clever pairing of whimsical designs with luxurious Italian craftsmanship, Benedetta Bruzziches has garnered a cult-following among the fashion set. As a finalist in Italian Vogue’s “Who Is On Next?”, it’s safe to say that all eyes are set on this handbag designer on the rise. Handmade by artisans in Italy with the highest-quality materials, the bags by Benedetta Bruzziches are a fresh break from the norm.

Spring/Summer 2014 collection
Starting from the world-famous question; “Magic mirror in my hand, who is the fairest in the land?”, the collection lives in the magical world of fairy tales and speaks of the emotions that these awaken in the soul of every woman. In female hands the handbags turn into talismans of positive-thinking capable of triggering poetic changes strong enough to bring all women back as the heroines they were inspired by in their childhood. With a touch of imagination, respect, music and poetry, anybody can live their own fairy tale. A personal secret to fill life with happiness.

The brand Azzurra Gronchi – launched in 2011 by its homonymous designer – is a luxury handbag collection that combines supreme quality materials and the rich knowledge of Italian craftsmanship gained from the family tannery in Tuscany. To demonstrate the bond with her roots, and to keep sustaining the concept of Made in Italy and excellence, Azzurra still crafts all her creations in that same tannery.

A career of important collaborations with the fashion houses of Dolce & Gabbana, Salvatore Ferragamo and Costume National, has enabled this fashion talent to develop innovative and demanding products for fashion-conscious women who are born with the desire to express themselves.

The collections are conceived with a variety of precious leathers and undergo complex manufacturing processes to reach the state of finished creations. The avant-garde printed leather styles define the brand identity of Azzurra Gronchi as “fun and original”; an extraordinary mix of materials and a color-oriented research that combine in an unconventional yet precious idea.

The characteristic little eye mask delivered in the iconic Burlesque style, is proposed as an intriguing detail on small leather goods. Patents, suedes, calfs and a variety of printed leathers, add a touch of freshness and a sip of retro to the whole recipe. Azzurra Gronchi is a strong and colorful fashion statement that doesn’t look to the past and that’s “not afraid to take risks”.

Brazilian-born with Italian roots, the handbag designer Paula Cademartori, is guided by an immense devotion for fashion and the strong belief that the craftsmanship and fine quality of Made in Italy products have no rivals.

The sophisticated luxury that she proposes, expresses these standards of exclusivity and glamour through functional designs and a timeless allure. The result is a collection of contemporary classics with a vintage taste and a bold personality.

Starting out at Orciani – an Italian brand that represents excellence in the leather goods industry – Paula moves on to designing handbags for Versace presenting the first collection in 2012 at the Parisian trade show Premiere Classe.
In 2011 she goes on to being selected among the 10 finalists of Who Is On Next?; a contest and scouting project organized by AltaRoma in collaboration with Vogue Italia to seek out young creative talents.

Paula’s opposition to today’s commercial world of fast fashion, brings her to strictly follow the craft diktats of Made in Italy in the production of her collections; from the process of leather tanning to the assembly of her trademark satin-finished palladium buckles.

Paula Cademartori handbags basically are an Italian quality statement destined to “a sophisticaed woman who appreciates the quality of the product in itself, not to someone who buys the name of a brand.”
