In his past f/w 13-14 collection “Concrete”, Lucio Vanotti expressed his rational creative touch by fusing beauty with utility in a set of interchangeable pieces inspired by concrete pillars and an angry sea. This time, the concept behind his S/S 2014 collection lies in the anatomy of squared surfaces, rectangles and boxes. Mathematical equations dictate the structure of perpendicular shapes, translating into a dimensional game of interactive and contrasting silhouettes that never neglect the bond between surfaces and textures.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION 

In one part of the collection, understated items flow through an essential palette of black, white, grey and blue, alongside conflicting striped fabrics, minimal squares and small hole details. The classical jacket goes armless and brings forth the deconstructed, boxy attitude of squared essence found also in pants, shirts and shorts.

In total contrast to this rigid feel, comes the lightness of the other part of the collection. Injected by a dose of ideas derived from sculptor Brancusi’s sinuous sculptures, Carl Andre’s geometric minimalism and artist David Hockney’s pool series, garments breathe intimacy. Creams, hued pinks and pinches of rust, accompany the pool water and egg/sky prints adding a graphic edge to the simplicity of all the collection.

Surfaces are grainy similarly to a metaphorical second skin, while textures and classic fabrics merge in a unique answer to innovation. Selections of alcantara, smooth silky cotton stretch, crisp seersucker, mako jersey, white plissé cotton and lightweight knits, give a translucent finish.

Everyday wearability goes a step further and uses the technique of graphic art to deliver a strong touching message to the fashion world. Born from the idea behind the photographic project of Salvatore Arnone; “The Fifth Day”, the S/S 2014 capsule collection “Save Your Animal” bears the portraits of endangered species in the form of close-up prints on unisex t-shirts and minimal mini dresses in modal jersey and silk. In a new concept of contemporary art on textiles, the collection also pushes communication boundaries whereby the animals piercing the lens with their deep gaze, seemingly look at us to inquire about the future that awaits them.

Enriched by an avant-garde stylistic research and study of ingenious cuts, the creations are produced by La Maison du Couturier; the fashion company of designer Lamberto Petri who’s personal collection was already selected to be in Dolce & Gabbana’s Milan based Multi-Brand store Spiga2 – a conceptual space entirely dedicated to the discovery of upcoming Made in Italy fashion talents.

For the 84th edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo in Florence, an exhibition at the Aria Art Gallery strengthens the value of uniqueness that connects art and fashion by showcasing this limited edition collaboration between Salvatore Arnone and La Maison du Couturier. Twenty percent of the exhibition’s profits will be donated to the zoos and structures that host endangered species, in order to better their quality of life and contribute to their survival.

The Milan based hat master and milliner; Francesco Ballestrazzi, is one of the fanciest new Italian designers on the block. The brand; Francesco Ballestrazzi Hats & Creations, was born in 2011 from the designer’s own wish to launch a series of artistic headpieces that could go beyond the concept of simple hats. So using the surface of the human head as a starting point, Francesco imagines and extends the thoughts and the ideas inside the hat wearer’s head to produce a truly amazing accessory.

All creations are handmade and manufactured by Francesco himself using traditional Italian millinery techniques. Every single collection stems from his own hands and then grows shaped by his experience. The final result is a limited edition production that blends together artisanship, exclusivity, experimentation and a pinch of future vision.

In “Amazone” for example, the hats narrate the essence of nature in a game of lace micro-sculptures, elaborate textiles, fantastic plastic constructions and sinuous floral installations, while feathers plump up creativity in a feast of colors, extravagance and magnificent shapes. In “Tea Time”, a vintage atmosphere filled with irony showcases floral prints, surreal teacups and cake-inspired designs.

Defying the laws of gravity and all sorts of known conventions, Francesco Ballestrazzi’s creations may be deemed as unwearable by fashion skeptics around the world or by those who simply lack the courage to wear them, but as the Italian writer and poet; Gabriele d’Annunzio would say in latin “Memento audere semper” – always remember to dare.
